Every February, Lakeview dentist celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness of how important it is for kids to develop good oral habits at an early age. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) strongly recommends that children visit their Lakeview dentist no later than one year of age to deal with any potential dental problems. To celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month, we have some fun teeth facts for kids!

Germs Cause Decay

Many people believe that it is food that causes decay, but it’s not what kids eat, it’s how often they eat it. Kids, you can tell your parents that candy isn’t wreaking havoc on your teeth, just how often you eat it is. No food has to be completely outlawed, you just have to make sure to rinse or brush after eating.

Fluoride

Fluoride is very important in your dental care routine but should not be introduced to kids until they can be trusted to spit out after rinsing. There are fluoride free products that can be used for younger children to make sure they are in the habit of brushing, flossing and rinsing.

Tooth Decay

According to the AAPD, tooth decay is the most common disease seen in children. To prevent this bacterial infection, you must start educating your child as early as possible. Make brushing your teeth a family activity so you lead by example and it turns into a fun event for the whole family!
